Architectural assignment

The architectural assignment focused on three aspects: the creation of additional exhibition volume, the re-organization of existing and new functions, and the routing through the museum. The programme contains reception; auditorium; exhibition space; multi-functional workshops open to visitors; and space for events. The structure of the former mill will be renovated according the original drawings. The inside organization of spaces will be changed into a more logic setup. The axis between the front (road side) and the elevating forest in the backyard has been reactivated. The square between the old structure, and the museum extension (new reception), and the separate hall with workshops serves as open-air and multifunctional space.

Concept and design: Arch. ETH Michael Wagner, Wagner Vanzella (Zurich), Henk te Velde, De Velde Architects (Kampen) in cooperation with Evert Ypma (Zurich/Amsterdam), 2005
