Major Experimental Design
MA Masterstudio, Basel School of Art and Design
University of Applied Arts North-West Switzerland

Tutor: Evert Ypma

The Masterstudio Design study programme is offered by the Basel School of Art and Design in cooperation with the Institutes of Fashion Design, Visual Communication, Industrial Design, Interior Design and Scenography, Research on Design and Art, and the HyperWerk laboratory. Solidly project-based, the course provides a common, multidisciplinary workspace for all Master’s degree students regardless of disciplinary background, where great emphasis is laid on mutual involvement and learning processes during project development, experimentation and execution.

Experimental Design
An experimental designer takes an experimental attitude and perspective: he/she investigates a variety of questions and answers, positions and situations, methods and solutions, theories and practices. The target in Experimental Design is to test, track and understand new, unconventional and surprising approaches, design strategies, development processes and laboratory situations. Experimental Design is aimed, for example, at the student who is interested in artistic and creative involvement as an art director in an existing agency or established research institution.

Evert Ypma has been tutor in this programme in 2008 – 2009
