Design Education
Evert Ypma has broad experience in teaching design in postgraduate education at universities of art and design and design schools across Europe, Middle East and Asia.
Postgraduate design education is focussed on learning students and creative professionals to reflect upon their own design methods and artistic production. Most of the education activities by Evert Ypma are research based, or in relation to existing research projects. In particular seminars are emphasises on research methodology and design attitudes.
During teaching seminars Evert Ypma encourage students to ask questions they have never asked before. The open, but interrogative study environment stimulates each individual student to go beyond his/her present boundaries of design production. For students design education then appear as reflective activity towards own professional identity.
This gives them the ability to develop own methods and tools that enables them to reflect and rephrase the brief of their (future) commissioners and clients. They learn to make observations and analysis of various professional and cultural contexts. They learn to conceptualize their ideas and translate these into advanced design propositions though imagination and materialization.
