Design, Identities in Hybrid Society
A culturally and socially hybrid society radically has changed the understandings on identity. Contemporary cities are increasingly characterized individual citizens have the uncommon in common: a lack of shared stories and common reference points. Social hybridity let many (western) countries struggle with their own processes of de-traditionalization and its adaptation to today’s social realities that emerge out of the repercussions of globalization.
Societal organizations are still rooted in post-modernism and often demonstrate how their inflexible structures are insufficient regarding human mass mobility and heterogeneity. Design disciplines too are challenged to find suitable methods and practices for design and representation that relate to the floating realities. Read further...
