Design and Economics
Design plays a crucial role in the development of humans’ economic prosperity. It was not only the demand for physical artefacts that boosted the industrial age, moreover it was a concept of modernity and progress. In post-industrial societies design deployed it’s omnipotent capacity in order to differentiate products and to attract buyers in oversaturated markets.
Economic growth and innovation by design production and use always have been linked. Today we understand the meaning of ancient cultures from their capacities to leave traces of design, which have survived their times. In contemporary ‘creative economy’ the capabilities of design are understood as socio-economic factors.
In this dossier articles, projects, and opinions to the economic dimension of design are brought together.
