Design, Identities and Cities
The 21st century is the urban age and most societal crises can be expected to manifest in spatial situations and urban processes. The post-retail, pluralist city is and will be the collective stage for designing cultures.
The city is foremost an ephemeral human process, a cultural process, where the physical manifestation of the city constitutes a dialogue with the imaginary perception of that city. To discover the sense of a place the observer requires a conscious perception. Certain elements, which dominate an impression, tend to overshadow other elements, which are equally essential to the sense of that specific place.
